How to wear vintage jeans like Kareena Kapoor
Skinny jeans are passé as fashionistas revisit these 80s vintage denims. It’s a nod to the popular retro denim-styles that present a set of comfortable options. From high-waisted, belted wide-leg jeans to pleated, distressed or acid-washed denims, there are a variety of options to pick from.
Wearing it right! Pairing a high-waisted jeans with a flouncy floral blouse or a flowy white top with bootcut denims is one way to go. Opting for a cozy knit, like the one recently sported by actress Anushka Sharma with statement black shoes or white sneakers gives it a street-smart appeal, while going for a short fitted crop top with a high-waisted, wide or pleated jeans — spotted on Disha Patani — can also look good. Layering it with an acid-washed denim jacket like the one seen on Deepika Padukone or pulling off a fitted draw-string jeans, like Kriti Sanon, with a crop top is also an option. We got stylists to share a few tips on how to sport it.
Skinny is out, baggy is in… Stylist Priyanka Mehra gives you tips to help you don this trendy look. She says, “I personally love Athiya Shetty’s collection of these denims. You can wear the 80s denim style in a lot of ways like baggy jeans, jeans frayed at the knee or just above the ankle. Add a bunch of chains to create a streetwear look or you can opt for straight-cut jeans or high-waisted wide ones, too.”
Clearly, there’s are lot to choose from, and you can mix and match depending on your creativity and sense of style. Skinny is clearly out making room for baggy and wide jeans that are now in the spotlight. Priyanka goes on to add, “Skinny jeans were ruling fashion circles for a long time, but they have now made way for baggy ones. Kareena Kapoor Khan has nailed the look, opting for high-waisted, baggy jeans. If that’s a style that appeals to you, you can do denim-on-denim like she did. Frayed and distressed jeans have also now moved on from being skinny to wide, with frays at the knee. If they’re straight, you can pair them with flouncy tops, if they’re wide you can try crop tops, which are often body hugging. Pleated jeans are also a great investment this season, like the good old mom jeans, these look perfect with bigger-sized shirts and even with big denim jackets. You can also try the cargo-style, they look good with plain black or white basic tops.”
