Gucci is selling kaftans inspired by our desi kurtas
Gucci may be a luxury fashion house based in Florence, Italy, but it often ends up seeking inspiration from cultures across the world. And, its latest creation is definitely a spin-off of a garment every Indian woman has in her closet.
The world-famous brand has started selling its own range of kaftans – a robe worn across Asia.
Well, the Italian brand is selling the garment as ‘floral embroidery organic linen kaftan’ and has priced it at USD 3,500 or INR 2.5 lakh. But, one look at the creation and it will remind you of a desi kurta resting in your wardrobe.
The label has great things to say about its creation. The website explains it in the following words – ‘Crafted from organic linen, this kaftan is enriched with floral embroidery and self-tile tassels. First introduced as part of Gucci’s 1996 collection, the kaftan continues to be an integral part of the House aesthetic while evolving in new materials and modern details. Unexpected layering with tracksuit pieces define a whole new way to interpret the garment, giving it a surprising twist.’
The garment claims to be made in Italy, but we feel it has totally Asian sensibilities. Tell us what is your reaction to this designer kaftan in the comment section below.
