Google is working on making your Pixel more helpful
Google is now going to send bigger updates to your Pixel with their new feature drops. The whole aim is to make your phone ‘better over time’. The first of the lot, that is scheduled to drop this month, includes ‘a new way to capture portraits, easier Duo calls and automatic call screening’.
Google has listed all the upcoming features in a blog post written by Shenaz Zack, Group Product Manager and they are as follows:
You can now turn any photo into a portrait on Pixel by blurring the background. It can be a photo you took years ago or it could also be a photo where you forgot to turn on the portrait mode – you can blur the background with the Portrait Blur on Google Photos. Also, it need not be a photo you clicked from the Pixel, it just needs to be on your Google Photos.
Google has not explained how they are doing this but possibly they are using AI to create a depth map based on data from actual portrait photos. This is what Google uses to get portrait mode on the front camera without having a depth sensor on the front.
