Donate plastic to help families get groceries
Mumbai Plastic Recyclothon, a plastic donation recycling citizen initiative of Project Mumbai, said on Wednesday that it will match donations of plastic waste with groceries for the less privileged.
Project Mumbai will organise a pickup drive across Mumbai on October 3 and October 8—coinciding with the Festival of Giving, DaanUtsav—and the plastic waste collected will be weighed at the end of the day. An equal weight of groceries, including rice and pulses, will be distributed to less privileged families that have been affected by the pandemic. The plastic will get recycled into civic amenities, including benches for municipal open spaces and gardens, and pencil boxes for schoolchildren.
Register on www.projectmumbai.org by September 25 to schedule a pickup.
Mumbai Plastic Recyclothon has been mentioned in the Limca Book of Records 2020 as the largest citizen volunteering initiative for plastic donation and recycling. Project Mumbai, a model of publicprivate-people partnership, was recently awarded the United Nations SDG Solidarity Action Award 2020 for its humanitarian work during the pandemic.
