17 times Alia Bhatt stepped out in Manish Malhotra lehengas, saris and anarkalis
It’s safe to presume that Alia Bhatt’s love for Manish Malhotra’s designs began with her debut in Bollywood—all of her outfits for her first film, Student Of The Year (2012), were crafted by the famed couturier. Since then, the actor has looked towards his pieces almost every time she needed an Indian ethnic outfit, whether it’s for promotional events or star-studded weddings.
From intricate lehengas and saris to fuss-free anarkalis, Bhatt has served a standout look in every silhouette offered by Malhotra, proving that he is indeed one of her favourite designers. Earlier this year, she attended the Ambanis’ annual Ganesh Chaturthi puja in a yellow floral sari by the designer, pairing it with a strappy pink blouse to highlight the pink blooms patterned over the drape. She also picked a blue pre-draped sari by Manish Malhotra for a friend’s wedding in Delhi. Forgoing tradition, Bhatt styled her custom-made drape over a matching sharara to lend a modern spin to her look.
The star chose a Manish Malhotra sari for Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta’s pre-engagement sangeet function in Mumbai too, opting for a tonal pink brocade number featuring light pink pleats, a bright pink pallu and an embroidered gold border.
Just like his saris, Malhotra’s wedding-ready lehengas have won Alia Bhatt’s vote time and again. Back in 2015, the actor attended Ridhi Malhotra’s wedding reception in an all-white Manish Malhotra lehenga embroidered in gold, and the same year, a blue Manish Malhotra lehenga with a boxy white blouse won her favour at Shahid and Mira Rajput Kapoor’s Mumbai reception.
More recently, the actor was also spotted at Isha Ambani’s December 2018 wedding in a demure blue and white lehenga set that was adorned with floral and geometrical motifs. And for Akash Ambani and Shloka Mehta’s pre-wedding sangeet party in St Moritz, Switzerland, Bhatt went with one more dreamy lehenga by the couturier: a pink number comprising a sequinned pink blouse and a floral lehenga skirt in a lighter shade. While lehengas in particular have always been a favourite of the star’s, she’s never shied away from going bold with the palette of her Manish Malhotra picks. Case in point: the lime green brocade number she stepped out in for a Diwali party in 2017.
